Umber Privacy Policy

Effective September 2026

Umber is a camera and photo editor that works entirely on your iPhone. There are no servers of ours, no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. We never see your photos, and we have no way to.

What we collect

Nothing. Umber collects no personal data, no photos, no analytics, no crash reports, no identifiers and no usage statistics. Not from anyone, ever.

Your photos

• Photos are taken, developed and edited on your iPhone. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
• Photos you take are kept in Umber's own storage on your iPhone, and saved to your photo library too unless you turn off Auto-save to Photos in Settings. Edits you make to a photo in your library are saved back to that library, where every edit can be reverted in the Photos app.
• If you back up your iPhone, or use iCloud Photos, your photos are part of that, the same as any other photo. That is your storage, protected by Apple under your Apple Account; we have no access to it.
• A photo only leaves your iPhone when you share or export it yourself, to a place you choose.

Camera and Photos access

• The camera is used only to take your photos, on your iPhone.
• Access to your photo library is used only to save the photos you take and to open and edit the photos you choose. Umber reads nothing from your library for any other purpose.
• You can change either permission at any time in the Settings app.

iCloud

Umber uses iCloud key-value storage for one thing: to keep your settings in step across your devices, such as the looks you save, your favourite films and the films you hide. They are kept in your own iCloud account and carried by Apple. We cannot see them. Your photos are never put there.

Place names

When you look at a photo's details, or search for a place to set where a photo was taken, Umber asks Apple Maps for the place name. That request is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; nothing about it reaches us.

Purchases

Umber Pro is a one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, and Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction. The count of free photos is kept on your iPhone only, in its keychain, so it is not reset by reinstalling the app.

Children

Umber collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
