Porter Privacy Policy

Effective September 2026

Porter is a free Mac app from Papermint Studio that gives the dev servers on your Mac names like shop.local. This policy explains what it does with information.

In short

Porter collects nothing. Your names, requests and certificates stay on your Mac; the only thing it fetches is our update feed.

What stays on your Mac4

  • Your names and settings are saved in Porter's folder in your Library. They are never sent anywhere.
  • Requests travel from your browser to your own server through Porter on your Mac. They never pass through our servers or anyone else's. The recent requests list is kept in memory and cleared when Porter quits.
  • Server details such as the tool and project folder behind each name are read from your Mac to show them to you, and are not sent anywhere.
  • HTTPS certificates. Porter's certificate authority and its key are created and kept on your Mac. Trusting it uses the macOS keychain, and turning HTTPS off removes it.

What goes online2

  • Update checks. Once a day Porter downloads a small file listing the latest version from downloads.papermint.studio, and downloads the update if you choose to install it. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to our hosting provider, Cloudflare. We don't log it or use it to identify you. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings.
  • Nothing else. Porter has no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads and no account.
