Moving from Money Lover to a private expense tracker
If you keep your spending in Money Lover and want it somewhere with no account and no server, PennyBook reads Money Lover's export and brings years of history across in one step, on your own iPhone.
Bring your history in one step
- Export your transactions from Money Lover as a CSV file.
- In PennyBook, open the Import tab and choose that file. It is read on your device and never sent anywhere.
- Check what will happen: how many entries, the dates they cover, which wallets come across, and what is skipped as a duplicate. Tap through to change where a wallet or category lands.
- Add them. Every import stays listed with Undo, which takes out everything it brought in.

Three seconds to log an expense
Tap +, type the amount, tap a category, save. Add a few words and the category picks itself, learning from what you filed before; type “chai 20” and the amount fills in too, or say it.
Wallets with real balances
Cash, bank accounts, credit cards, e-wallets. Transfers move money between wallets and never count as spending, and a credit card shows what you owe.
Search the whole book
“swiggy 345” finds that one dinner from any year. Narrow by kind, wallet, category, amount or dates, and see what the matches add up to.
Private, and you can check
No account, no bank login, no analytics, and a build that fails if networking code is added. Lock the book with Face ID, export it as a spreadsheet any time, or erase it. Read the help pages and the privacy policy.
Questions
- Can PennyBook import my Money Lover history?
- Yes. Choose the CSV file Money Lover exports on PennyBook's Import tab. PennyBook recognises Money Lover's columns, brings the wallets across as they are, matches the categories, and skips duplicates. You see what will happen before anything is written, and one tap undoes the import.
- What happens to categories that don't match?
- Categories are matched to PennyBook's twenty spending and twelve income categories. A name with no match goes under Other, and the original name is kept in each entry's note, so a search still finds it.
- Does PennyBook need an account or a bank login?
- No. There is no account, no bank login and no server of ours. The app has no networking code of its own. The only exception is iCloud sync, which is off until you turn it on and uses your own private iCloud.
- How much does PennyBook cost?
- The first 100 entries are free. After that, PennyBook Pro is $19.99, once. Importing, reading, searching, editing, exporting and erasing stay free either way.
- Which other apps can it import from?
- Money Lover, Wallet, Spendee, Monefy, Cashew, YNAB, Goodbudget and PennyBook's own export are recognised, and any other CSV with a date and an amount works too. You can also paste a table copied from a spreadsheet.
- When is PennyBook available?
- PennyBook is being finished and is not on the App Store yet. It will be for iPhone and iPad.
