Wren Privacy Policy

Wren is a Mac app from Papermint Studio that types what you say. This policy explains what it does with information.

In short

Your voice and the words Wren types never leave your Mac. Wren goes online only to download voices, check for updates and check your licence.

Your voice. Wren listens only while you hold your talk key (or after you tap it, until you tap again). The audio is turned into text on your Mac and is not saved or sent anywhere.
What you said. If Keep a journal is on, what Wren typed (and what it heard before tidying) is saved in one file in your Library: ~/Library/Application Support/Wren/journal.json. Turn it off or clear it in Settings at any time.
Words and fixes. The words you teach Wren and your fixes are kept in the same folder on your Mac.
Accessibility. Wren uses it to notice your talk key in any app and to paste your words. It doesn't read what's on your screen.

Voices. A speech model is downloaded once when you choose it: from Hugging Face, or from Apple for Apple Speech. The download sends nothing about you or what you say.
Update checks. Wren downloads a small file listing the latest version from downloads.papermint.studio, and the update itself if you choose to install it. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to our hosting provider, Cloudflare. We don't log it or use it to identify you.
Your licence. When you activate a key, Wren sends it to Papermint (console.papermint.studio) with your Mac's name as set in System Settings and a hashed id made from your Mac's hardware id, so one Mac counts once. Papermint checks the key with Dodo Payments, who handle the payment. About once a day Wren sends back the signed licence it was given, to confirm the key still stands. Nothing else. Wren has no analytics, no tracking and no ads, and we never see your voice or what you say.
