Making a page5
- Describe anything. On the Create tab, type a few words (or tap Surprise Me for an idea), keep Premium or pick Standard, then tap Create Page. A little crayon dance plays while Sketchy draws it as a black-and-white coloring page.
- Standard or Premium. Standard draws rich detail. Premium uses our finest artist and uses one more spark.
- Start from a photo. Tap Start from a photo, pick a picture, then tap Create Page. Sketchy redraws it as line art you can color. Photo pages can take up to a minute or so.
- Want another version? Tap the round arrow on a finished page, then Draw Again. A fresh version uses sparks again, and the first page stays in My pages.
- Every page you make is saved automatically in My pages.
Sparks and costs5
- New pages are paid for with sparks ✦. A page uses 2 sparks for Standard, 3 for Premium and 4 from a photo. The Create screen always shows the exact cost before you tap.
- Your sparks show at the top of every tab. Tap them to buy more: packs of 50, 150 and 350 sparks start at $1.99 in the US, about 25, 75 and 175 Standard pages. Each pack is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and sparks never expire.
- Pages from Explore and Books never use sparks. Coloring, printing, saving, sharing and replays are free too.
- If you run out, the sparks screen opens on its own so you can top up. Settings (the gear at the top) also shows how many you have left.
- Bought credits before sparks arrived? Nothing was lost: 10 credits became 1 spark, and every page costs the same as before.
When a page doesn't come out4
- If a page can't be drawn, you'll see Couldn't create the page. You weren't charged. Sparks are taken when drawing starts and handed back automatically if it fails. Tap Try Again to have another go.
- Making pages, Surprise Me and opening pages in Explore and Books need an internet connection. Pages already in My pages open and color offline.
- If the same description keeps failing, try wording it a little differently.
- If your sparks still look wrong a minute after a failed page or a purchase, close and reopen the app. If they're still off, email us and we'll put it right.
Coloring6
- Tap Paint It on any page. Choose Fill, Brush or Stickers under the picture.
- Fill floods a shape up to its lines with one tap. Next to the plain color are the magic fills: stripes, dots and glitter, plus the rainbow crayon at the front of the tray.
- Brush draws freehand with a crayon, marker or pencil in three sizes. Stickers adds stars, hearts, animals and more: tap to place one, drag it to move it, and use the size buttons to make it bigger or smaller.
- Tap the crayon box name to swap between five boxes (Classic, Ocean, Meadow, Sunset and Cozy), use the eraser, or tap + to mix any color. Pinch to zoom in close.
- Undo and redo sit at the top right, next to the round arrow for Start over, which shows the page going back to its lines before it asks and can still be undone. Tap the ✓ at the top left to see your picture on the Ta-da! screen.
- Tap × to leave. Your coloring is saved when you close the page. Reopening a colored page shows it and asks whether to Keep Coloring or Start Fresh.
Explore, Books and Sketchy Premium6
- Explore opens with the Page of the Day, which can be a free or a premium page. Under it, the Free and Premium chips switch between the two sets of categories, like Animals, Dinosaurs and Outer Space. Once you've hearted a page, a ♥ chip shows all your favorites. Search finds any page by name, free and premium together.
- Books holds storybook coloring books, ten pages each in story order, with a featured or seasonal book at the top and the book you're coloring ready to pick up again. The same Free, Premium and ♥ chips sort them, and search finds books by title and pages inside every book. Two books are free and the rest come with Sketchy Premium.
- Each tab remembers the chip you last picked. Until you pick one, it opens on Free, or on Premium once you have it.
- Pages and books with a crown belong to Sketchy Premium. Tap Unlock to see it: a single purchase that unlocks every premium page and book, now and in the future. New pages and books arrive on their own, no update needed.
- When you color a page from Explore or Books, it's saved to My pages so your coloring has a home.
- All pages are for personal coloring only, not for business or resale.
Printing and saving4
- Tap the printer button on any page, or Print on the Ta-da! screen. Sketchy uses AirPrint, so any AirPrint printer on your Wi-Fi works.
- Plain pages print in grayscale to save ink. Colored pages print in full color. Pick Letter, A4 or Automatic under Paper size in Settings.
- Tap the download button, or Save on the Ta-da! screen, to save a page to Photos. The first time, iOS asks to let Sketchy add photos. It can only add, never see your library.
- Colored pictures you share get a small Made with Sketchy footer. Printed pages stay clean.
Replays and videos2
- Tap Replay on the Ta-da! screen, or on a colored page in My pages, to watch your coloring fill itself in again.
- To share it as a video, tap Share on the Ta-da! screen, then Share Video. Videos run up to 30 seconds, are made on the spot, and aren't kept by the app.
My pages3
- My pages has two shelves, Originals and Colored, each a chip with its count. Originals holds the line art of every page you make, plus the Explore and book pages you've hearted, with your favorites first. Colored holds your finished pictures, newest first.
- Use the search bar to find a page by the words you typed.
- Open a page to print, save, share, favorite or delete it. Deleting a page can't be undone and removes it from your other devices too.
Purchases and restoring5
- Payments are handled by Apple through the App Store. Spark packs are used up as you spend them. Sketchy Premium is a one-time purchase you keep.
- After you confirm with Apple, the App Store can take a few seconds to finish. Sketchy shows Getting your sparks or Unlocking Premium while it waits, then Sparks added or Premium unlocked when it's done. If you cancel, nothing is charged and you're back where you were.
- On a new device or after reinstalling, tap Restore Purchases in Settings, on the Sketchy Premium sheet or on the sparks screen, signed in with the same Apple ID. Sketchy shows Checking your purchases, then Premium restored, or says plainly if there was nothing to restore or the App Store couldn't be reached.
- Restore Purchases brings back Sketchy Premium, not sparks. Your sparks follow your iCloud account instead (see below).
- For a refund on a purchase, ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Family purchases can require approval with Ask to Buy in Screen Time.
iCloud and your devices3
- If your devices use the same iCloud account, your pages, colorings, favorites and sparks follow you automatically.
- Without iCloud, everything stays on this device, and deleting the app deletes your pages.
- Keep your sparks safe. If you don't use iCloud and plan to delete the app or move devices, email us first and we'll help carry your sparks over.
Settings2
- Tap the gear at the top of any tab. Sounds turns the little crayon and ta-da sounds on or off, and Little buzzes does the same for haptics.
- Settings also has Paper size for printing, Restore Purchases, Rate Sketchy, Share with a friend, the privacy policy and the app version.
Kids and safety4
- Every description is sent with instructions to draw a simple, cheerful black-and-white page for a children's coloring book. Sketchy has no word filter of its own, and the AI services may apply their own safety checks, so it's best to have a grown-up nearby for younger kids.
- Surprise Me ideas come from an AI that's told to keep them cheerful and kid-friendly, with a built-in list of ideas as a backup.
- Photos are sent off the device to be redrawn, so let a grown-up pick them. See the privacy policy for exactly what's sent.
- Sketchy has no accounts, chat or ads, and every purchase goes through Apple's own confirmation.
