How it works
Tap record and talk. The words land on the page as you speak, straight from Apple's on-device speech engine, and recordings of any length are written out in full. A phone call, Siri or a headphone swap pauses the recording, and it resumes on its own.
When you stop, Apple Intelligence writes a title, a short summary on longer notes, and a rewrite without the ums and false starts. Flip between the tidy Notes and the exact Transcript any time; tap any sentence to play the audio from there.
Why on-device matters for transcription
A voice note is often the most private thing on a phone: a half-formed plan, a meeting, a diary entry. Whittle never sends the audio anywhere to be transcribed, so there is nothing to upload, nothing to store on someone else's server, and nothing to leak. It also means it works on a plane or in a basement with no signal.

- Does Whittle work without an internet connection?
- Yes. The transcript is written by Apple's on-device speech engine, and the title and tidy notes by Apple Intelligence on the device. The language pack downloads once ahead of time; after that, recording and transcribing need no connection.
- Is my voice uploaded anywhere?
- No. Audio and text stay on your iPhone or iPad. Only the note text syncs, and only through your own private iCloud if you use it. Whittle has no account and no servers.
- How much does Whittle cost?
- Every feature is free for your first 25 notes. Whittle Pro removes the cap for $9.99, once. There is no subscription, and Pro covers your family through Family Sharing.
- Which iPhones does it run on?
- Any iPhone or iPad with iOS 26 or iPadOS 26. The live transcript, notebooks, translation, search and sync work on all of them. Titles, summaries and tidy notes need Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro or later); without it, notes are titled from their first words.
- Which languages can it transcribe?
- Every language Apple's speech engine transcribes in its own script. The title, summary and notes come back in the language you spoke, and a finished note can be translated on-device.
- Can it transcribe an existing recording?
- Yes. You can import an audio file, and Whittle writes it out in full, with the transcript synced to the audio so a tap on any sentence plays from there.
