Effective October 2026

Almanac is a free Mac app from Papermint Studio that shows what your Mac is doing and keeps a record of it. This policy explains what it does with information.

In short

Almanac collects nothing. Everything it reads about your Mac and your apps, and the history it keeps, stays on your Mac. The only thing it fetches is our update feed.

What stays on your Mac6

  • Readings and history. CPU, memory, disk, network, battery, temperature and per-app readings are read from macOS on your Mac and kept in a database in Almanac's folder in your Library, for as long as you choose (30 days to a year). They are never sent anywhere. Settings › History can erase them.
  • Apps and processes. Almanac reads the names, folders and resource use of the processes on your Mac to show them to you. It uses macOS's own ps tool to see system processes. None of this leaves your Mac.
  • Coding agents. Almanac reads Claude Code's and Codex's session files on your Mac (in ~/.claude and ~/.codex) to count tokens, prompts and tool calls. It reads the message records only for those counts and the model name; it doesn't keep or show what you or the agent wrote.
  • Claude Code's status line. If you click Connect Claude Code, Almanac changes the statusLine setting in ~/.claude/settings.json (after saving a copy in Almanac's folder) and keeps the last status for each session, including your plan's usage, for two days in Almanac's folder. Disconnect restores your setting.
  • Alerts are shown as notifications by macOS on your Mac.
  • AI agents. If you turn on AI agent access, agents connect through a socket in Almanac's folder that only your user account can open; nothing listens on the network. What an agent asks for (readings, history, sessions) goes to that AI app, and from there to its provider under that app's own terms.

What goes online2

  • Update checks. Once a day Almanac downloads a small file listing the latest version from downloads.papermint.studio, and downloads the update if you choose to install it. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to our hosting provider, Cloudflare. We don't log it or use it to identify you.
  • Nothing else. Almanac has no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads and no account, and we never see anything about your Mac.
