Winnow Privacy Policy

Effective October 22, 2026

Winnow is a Mac app from Papermint Studio that shows where your disk space went and clears what you choose. This policy explains what it does with information.

In short

Winnow collects nothing about your files or your Mac. What it finds and what you remove stay on your Mac. It goes online only for our update feed and to check your licence.

What stays on your Mac3

Your files. Winnow reads the names, sizes and dates of files and folders to measure your disk, and app bundle details to match leftovers to apps. It never reads what's inside your documents.
History. What Winnow removed, where each file lived and where it went in the Trash is kept in one file in Winnow's folder in your Library, so it can restore things. It is never sent anywhere.
Full Disk Access. If you grant it, Winnow can measure folders macOS protects (Mail, Messages, Safari, the Trash). It still only reads their sizes, and you can turn it off in System Settings at any time.

What goes online3

Update checks. Once a day Winnow downloads a small file listing the latest version from downloads.papermint.studio, and downloads the update if you choose to install it. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to our hosting provider, Cloudflare. We don't log it or use it to identify you.
Your licence. When you activate a key, Winnow sends it to Papermint (console.papermint.studio) with your Mac's name as set in System Settings and an anonymous id made from your Mac's hardware id, so one Mac counts once. Papermint checks the key with Dodo Payments, who sold it. About once a day Winnow sends back the signed licence it was given, to confirm the key still stands. That's all it sends; see our studio privacy policy for buying and the licence console.
Nothing else. Winnow has no analytics, no crash reporting and no ads, and we never see anything about your files or your Mac.
